Two children in the paper miller's household died soon after childbirth.@juergen_hubert Yeah the very specific details like opening and closing windows, the times involved, and the ritual built up the truly horrifying reveal and brought the whole thing to an awful kind of life. There's even a mini-folklore of its own tucked inside with the young monk not being morally pure enough to withstand the ghost's challenge and the old monk having to take over. A masterclass in horror storytelling.

Near Carwitz, two men once observed a mysterious snake dance, led by the king of the snakes.'n#Germany #folktale #folklore #snake https://wiki.sunkencastles.com/wiki/The_Snake_Dance@juergen_hubert So I guess this is one of those "If you do something blasphemous something supernatural and bad happens to you" stories? I guess swearing is a lesser offense than hunting on a Sunday, at least...

I'm curious what authors' thoughts are on this AI translation feature.@Firlefanz @steaphan As an author and translator who has also wrestled with more than my share of this slop, trying to edit LLM-generated text is like an exercise in learned helplessness: I know I could do so much better if I translated from the ground up but I'm given neither the time nor money for that kind of effort, so I have to settle for "barely readable" with minimal edits and it almost physically hurts to let such a bad job pass through my hands.
LLM probability-translation can be a way to scan large amounts of foreign-language text, keeping the limitations of the technology in mind, but it doesn't do a good or even passable job of getting the fine points across accurately. Authors and readers deserve better, and so many works that could have been discovered and enjoyed by new audiences in translation will never get the chance now because they will have been reduced to rote reads bled of all originality and color, and often badly mistranslated as well.

#ScribesAndMakers - 12 Nov. If your creativity had a mascot or symbol, what would it be?'nI have one - an evil poodle.'nHe is so very, very evil.@juergen_hubert I remember reading how poodles' reputation for being fancy pampered dogs is a pretty recent thing and they were actually bred as hardy, rugged retrievers, with their distinctive grooming originally designed for their work splashing through water and mud.

Captured night hags often turn into pretty young girls for some reason.'nThey also have to obey their captors.'n#Germany #folktale #folklore https://wiki.sunkencastles.com/wiki/The_Walrider_Housekeeper@juergen_hubert how convenient xD

Hello again, Myth Lovers!@juergen_hubert @androcat shelter vaults, ravaged castles, sleeping kings, dwarven homes, dark foreboding forests as arboreal dungeons--so many possibilities!
-
Hello again, Myth Lovers!@juergen_hubert That does, in fact, seem like an excellent subject for a collection, and may be of interest to historians as well as folklorists.

Corpses should be carefully observed for post-mortem behavior, especially if other locals have been dying in rapid succession.@juergen_hubert The early plot of Dracula xD Also I hear the gup.pe domain has been stolen, I don't think there's any use in @-ing these groups anymore.
