Well, to quite-post myself, I actually did end up supporting a fellow writer soon after asking this question.
I talked to a #Syrian student about my work as well as 19th century research of German folklore. She found this very interesting, as there are a lot of folk tales in circulation among her fellow Syrians-in-exile. She has literary ambitions of her own, and says that this might a fertile topic for her.
I gave her my email address, and she asked me if I might consider holding a guest lecture at her university course in Freiberg. Let's see if anything comes of that...
