@atomicpoet seems like an opportunity to make a deal. I bet you could suckered him into trading Minnesota for Alberta separatists. Pretty please, I'm ready for Canadian issues vs US issues.

@Argonel Trump wants all of North America, and also Venezuela, Cuba, and the Panama Canal.

@atomicpoet he is dumb enough to accept Alberta separatists as if they were the entire province.

@jgobble @lisamelton That actually wasnโ€™t the last time Americans tried to invade Canada. They tried again in 1866.

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fenian_raids

And they threatened annexation even into the early 20th century. In the 1920s, they even drew up War Plan Red:

@theogrin THIS IS WHAT Iโ€™VE BEEN TRYING TO TELL PEOPLE!

Donโ€™t be saying, โ€œThis looks like Russiaโ€™s handiwork. Trump is taking orders from Putin.โ€

No, USAโ€™s been doing this shit forever. A big historical example is with Mexico. Specifically, Texas.

Which is why itโ€™s ironic when Alberta is compared to Texas.

Canada will be JUST FINE. It's got a stable economy and actual intelligence in top government. It's also got intelligence support from the rest of the world. The US has none of these things currently.

@theogrin We got away with it for so long because we acted like Americans, often on their behalf. All in the guise of โ€œfriendshipโ€. Trump is simply the first guy to go mask off.

@atomicpoet As an Albertan, I find this both utterly unsurprising, and yet still offensive. What it isn't, is worrisome, at least not any more so than Trump's other threats to Canada's sovereignty. There's just no way that our separatist clowns are getting anywhere near the 170K signatures they need to trigger a referendum, and no way for them to win even if they could. 70% against! This is just another Team Trump attempt at distracting from the real question: where *are* the Epstein files?

@atomicpoet Sorry, but I just don't see it happening. Trump has already chickened out on Greenland. Polls show the American public is sick of his antics and has no appetite for war, especially with Canada. He'll be irrelevant soon, and there's nobody else on the horizon with his particular ability to captivate the dumb masses.

Trump didnโ€™t chicken out of Greenland. He left the matter alone for now. He can choose to invade at a later time.

And you say Trump will be irrelevant soon. But what if heโ€™s not? What if decides to run as Vice-President, then take on the role of President after JD Vance resigns?

@atomicpoet Canada and the EU seem to be doing the right thing by moving away from all things American, and the Minnesota protests are nothing compared to what would happen here if the idiot tried to invade Canada. Yes, he's crazy and dangerous, so neither of us can take anything for granted, but I'm more worried about the billionaires (Thiel and those funding Project 25, in particular) than Trump himself.

Scooter8647 ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฟ And what if Trump doesnโ€™t cede power, lives another 10 years, and all checks and balances prove to be a lie?

Certainly, billionaires are a problem. But once again, things can get worse.

@atomicpoet I don't think the military commanders, who mostly can't stand draft-dodger Trump (or media pretty-boy Hegseth) will stand for it, but I certainly don't have all the answers. What do you suggest?
