Back in the 80s, the old people who where there in the 1920 and 1930s warn about exactly where this would lead. It's called Neoliberal economics because it's a Friedmanesque propaganda rebranding of the discredited Liberal economics that produced the Great Depression.

I thought the guy Marx had just died. So then, “Why are you asking me if he died long ago?”
