I've been thinking: To a large degree, #FOSS is developed by volunteers.

Ideally, a functional society would support FOSS developers financially so that they could focus more of their energy into FOSS development. But how would you organize this? How would you determine who gets financial support?

(Yes, UBI would be an option, but that would require a far greater political and cultural shift than supporting FOSS supporters in particular.)
