Most people *don't* wear, say, Tang-era clothing here. It's just that wearing it isn't viewed as all that weird. It's something I'll see on the subway two or three times a week (usually on women, to be fair) without anybody even giving a second glance (unless the woman is shapely, natch).

Like I said, people in this part of the world routinely wear clothing styles from hundreds to THOUSANDS of years ago without raising any kind of an eyebrow. Along with the recitation of ancient poetry and/or literature, etc. The past is still alive here, not carefully packaged into specific activities, any deviation from which causes murmuring and side-eye.
(It's even worse in North America!)

In India, in Japan, in China, in Korea you'll see people wearing clothing, say, from ancient times without it being considered weird. What would happen if someone in Germany went about their day with outfits from a mere 300 years ago? People in the same aforementioned countries can (and do!) recite poetry from memory from a thousand or more years ago. How many Germans can?

@juergen_hubert @mekkaokereke Why don't your automakers start making decent EVs? BMW and Mercedes' EVs are an embarrassment. Almost as bad as Teslas.
@juergen_hubert @mekkaokereke They should be scared. In almost metric EVs are superior to ICE. They're cheaper, faster, easier to drive. The only area in which ICE vehicles are still superior is range. Oh, and in speed of "recharging".
Both of those areas of advantage are slowly having their gaps closed. Battery technology is improving (slowly), but quick battery swaps and standardized battery packs are improving quickly. City buses here, for example, swap their battery packs in minutes.
@mekkaokereke And the fact that there's plenty of EV models here that are well under $18,000 sort of suggests that, well, yes. You are cooked.

Ugh. Had to smack down someone who claimed Thailand was basically Patriarchy Incarnate when:
1. Thailand has had an elected female prime minister before most western nations had an equivalent.
2. Thailand vastly exceeds the world average in female STEM researchers (and grant awardees!) at 45-50%.
3. Thailand also vastly exceeds the world average in female corporate leadership at 40-45%.
I mean it's no feminist paradise, but it's reductive and gross to claim Thai men think women are property!
@mekkaokereke The number that really scares me there is "White by Education" with almost half of degreed white folk still approving of Trump's stance on immigration.

One thing I'd love to see in the Fediverse is a button to "mute just this single post so I don't see it ten thousand times over as ten thousand people boost it into my timeline".
After my *third* "Sign Up Now/Maybe Later" dialogue boxes this morning alone, I realized something: #techbrodudes are not only incapable of understanding #consent to the point they don't understand "no means no", they're actively working to remove "no" from the vocabulary.
Don't leave your young daughter (or sons) alone with a techbrodude, is I guess what I'm saying.
