seeing another round of "don't favorite posts on fedi" -
Hey companies, please fck off 😽@EI3JDB @stux a lot of people, sure, but not a lot of fedi admins. The reply came off (to me anyway) as condescending, mostly because of the way you phrased it. The suggestion of using an ad-blocker would have still been not particularly useful in this case, but something like "I use an ad-blocker and rarely see that" would've at least seemed like you just misunderstood and were actually trying to help. Talking like OP doesn't know how search engines work doesn't

You know how a gambler who loses it all starts begging his family for cash or putting their house up for a loan?@Sassinake there's Loops, which last I saw is not fully featured and has very few videos on it
Unfortunately I think many people's favorite part of TikTok is the recommendation algorithm

You know how a gambler who loses it all starts begging his family for cash or putting their house up for a loan?@lexinova @Sassinake @blogdiva @nixCraft but I do not care if CCP can see my data *because* they won't break down my door. They're not a threat to me right now, but my own government is and all of the US big tech companies have the US government and cops at their disposal

Subject: Autistic ‘black and white’ thinking.@dedicto @KatyElphinstone @autistics everything I've heard about autistic people from neurotypicals is something more true of them. E.g. once someone around me said autism is just when someone thinks they're always right, or something like that. I, as an autistic person who's very frustrated with that behavior from neurotypicals, suggested that that's true of most people who are not autistic. Everyone laughed at me as if they had just discovered that I'm autistic and I was still in the dark

#Trans folx in #Kansas given 1 day to surrender their (now invalid) IDs and driver's licenses to the state. -
hey fellow trans folks, i could use your input:@eri oh and as far as what he can do, even just publicly expressing his support for trans people will probably have positive outcomes for the trans people in that community. If people look up to him, they'll be willing to listen to him more than they'd be willing to listen to trans people. And he can maybe convince some that we're just people who want to live our lives, same as them.

hey fellow trans folks, i could use your input:@eri first of all, I'd just like to say I think your brother is great and just seeing this post gave me a lot of hope!
Answers for him:
1) access to parts of society that cis people have access to. Shelters, bathrooms, locker rooms (many trans people won't even use this access out of fear--I've used the men's locker room once but it was terrifying and I don't wanna do it again. None of my transfem friends have ever used the women's, last I knew)
2) N/A but in a small*ish* town, it was isolation -
I am LOVING seeing so many AI projects being paused or binned.@Crovanian @patrick_h_lauke the only downsides I can think of are the ecological downsides of using LLMs, the social implications of letting a technology with oppression built in make all the executive decisions, and extra money going to the shareholders
Then again, considering CEOs tend to have private jets, be white supremacists, and be one of the shareholders... I'm not sure anything would actually change

I am LOVING seeing so many AI projects being paused or binned.@unlofl @SecurityWriter this is a good point that's getting me kind of excited about the future of the web. If hardware floods the market because corporations give up on making AI profitable, and internet users are all tired of the shit those corporations have been pulling with it... I bet we're approaching a turning point towards decentralization and community infrastructure

Here's a tale of how nature triumphs in the end.@moz @johncarlosbaez @quoidian impossible and also colonial in nature. E.g. Spaniards arriving on Turtle Island saw the way indigenous people were actively stewarding the land and demonized it, encouraging instead to leave "wilderness" without any human intervention. Now, a lot of those areas where colonists interfered with native stewardship have been doing worse off without human intervention, e.g. building up kindling for huge ecosystem-destroying wildfires instead of small controlled burns

How to block Bluesky from Mastodon:@ricardoharvin @FediTips most of the bluesky accounts I don't like seeing are of the "I want to share this post, but they don't have a CW (bc idt they can?), but if I repost the link it'll direct people off of fedi and onto a centralized site" variety
the posts themselves, the accounts themselves, are usually fine or even good. I just wish they were on fedi proper lol -
Here's a situation for #askFedi :I have Xfinity internet.Here's a situation for #askFedi :
I have Xfinity internet. I want to host some servers. Xfinity offers static IPs, but not for residential internet plans, so I'd have to upgrade to their business plan. I don't want to.
Are there other ways to get a static IP address? What are the cheapest ways, and what are the most ethical ways (unless they're all bad
)? -
i think the best way to use LLMs is this: don't type into the AI chatbot's input field.
