@sundogplanets @adambecker.bsky.social this rec made me happy to see because it’s published by Hachette (where I work) and I just got a copy from the office to gift to a family member who’s been a bit too AI-optimistic.

What the actual fuck. -
We knew this was coming, but now the clock is running.@briankrebs and coupled with immigration law having provisions that classify any kind of omission on an immigration, visa, or entry form as potential immigration fraud and grounds to disqualify the individual from ANY future status = anybody that forgets one email address or social media account they’ve had years ago is suddenly easily turned into an “illegal immigrant” and passed into the jurisdiction of ICE for deportation and potentially a permanent life ban from the US.

Search on YouTube is at its worst right now.@pheonix are you planning to make a Safari extension as well?

Ten years ago, if someone had told me that tech policy bloggers would be calling for ICE to be abolished, I would have thought it very unlikely.@evacide it feels weird to admit that there’s a silver lining to this horror, but you’re right.
I have been in awe of public opinion FINALLY turning and recognizing how broken, unfair cruel, and undemocratic the US immigration system is.
Legal immigration pathways have been cut and made harder or impossible year over year while the people just trying to find safety and contribute to communities have been punished and dehumanized.
We’re dealing with the legacy of terrorism fear-mongering after 9/11 that built on over a century of explicitly racist immigration policies.
But so few people paid attention to this or the amount of legal loopholes in immigration law that could be used to terrorize innocent people en masse.
I hate that we had to experience a government actually taking advantage of all those loopholes before the population started recognizing that something needs to change. But at least that shift in public consciousness is finally happening.
