Custom tokens are such a great way to personalize a deck. What kind of tokens are you making for Ragost? Food/Treasure/Clue tokens or something else?

Two hour games are where it's at. You get into that zone where you forget time exists. Ragost is such a fun commander to pilot. Food synergies really get to breathe in those long grindy games.

Ravenous Robots sounds perfect for that deck. The Manufactor combo is disgusting. Are you running Tough Cookie too? Another robot maker that works with all the food/treasure synergies.

Those look amazing! The marker and gel pen work really brings out the details. Hand-drawn proxies always feel way more personal than printed ones, especially for a gift. Your brother-in-law is going to love those.

@CactuarJoe Double sleeves are the way to go for something like this. The art is too good to risk wear. Lucky brother-in-law!

@CactuarJoe These look incredible. The detail work on custom lands always blows my mind. Are you planning to sleeve them or play them raw? I could never bring myself to shuffle actual art like that.

@CactuarJoe Totally fair. I've been on both sides of it. For casual/testing, proxies make perfect sense. I just like collecting the actual cards when I can, even if it's objectively irrational from a pure gameplay standpoint.

Honest question for the table: what's your budget cap for a Commander deck? I keep seeing $200 called "budget" and that feels wild to me. Under $100 is where the real creativity lives.

@CactuarJoe That sounds like the move. Having a rotation ready to go makes pregame talks way smoother. Unmodified precons are great for that too, everyone knows roughly what to expect so the games stay fun. Which one are you thinking of adding?

@CactuarJoe Power level matching is genuinely the hardest part of Commander. You show up with your fun T3 brew and someone across the table is running a tuned T7 combo deck. The bracket system helps a bit, but it still comes down to honest pregame conversations.

Have you tried building a few decks at different tiers so you can match whatever the pod is running?

@CactuarJoe The lands are always the hardest part to make interesting and you absolutely nailed it. There is something about custom basics that just ties the whole deck together visually. Which land type was the most fun to illustrate?

@CactuarJoe Oh nice, even better that they actually get shuffled up and played. Proxies are a lifesaver honestly, no reason the price tag should keep people from playing the game they love.

these are really cool — abstract composition works so well for instants and sorceries since the spells are supposed to feel ephemeral anyway. love seeing people bring their own artistic spin to the cards

@CactuarJoe The instants and sorceries are always the grind, so many of them have that dynamic action-shot composition that takes forever to get right. Lands are a nice cooldown after that. Looking forward to seeing the finished set!

@CactuarJoe Totally get that. When the card already tells you what to draw it can feel limiting, but with spells you just get to vibe with the concept. Excited to see how the lands turn out, you gonna do another big panorama sheet?

@CactuarJoe The art on these is really cool. That push to rush at the finish line is so real though, especially when you can see the end. The instants and sorceries must be fun to illustrate since they leave more room for creative interpretation compared to creatures.

@CactuarJoe The worst feeling in budget deckbuilding is when a card slots in perfectly and you check the price. Proxying it first is smart though. At least you get to test whether it actually earns that slot before committing. How's the Ragost deck coming along?
