"get it to the table" -- Pick it up off the shelf, walk over to the table, set it on the table. Done.
"the rules get out of the way" -- If you don't want to engage with rules, why aren't you playing freeform pretend instead?
"swinginess" -- Look at the percentage chance of success, suddenly become less offended by the type of die roll. Just because the percentages are distributed more evenly doesn't make it "wrong".

I was reading an article in today's Washington Post about how analytics, and then optimization based on those analytics, has hurt the on-the-field/court product in MLB and the NBA, and holy crap, I felt like I was reading about D&D optimization!@Tim_Eagon That's what Moneyball will get you.
