The issue is under whose party's control you would be best able to support Palestinians, protest against DHS, and in general make your voice heard and organise resistance. And even though it's possible to organise resistance in a fascist dictatorship, it's much easier under a dysfunctional and comparatively mildly hostile government.

@Fonant @cstross @david_chisnall One should design a society so that there is as little as possible for the people in power to grab on to once it becomes a police state. A legislation process that only considers fair weather is really bad, and the weather already seems kind of cloudy.

@DirtyAnCom @amerpie As is the case for many of these types of killings, it is fully possible for authorities to be responsible at the same time as they are not actively contracting a murder.

I know far too little about this specific case, but a very plausible hypothesis in general is that authorities lets someone be killed through inaction, stokes antipathy towards the person, or even provides resources to violent people.

There’s a whole spectrum of this, and all could be called ”killed him”.

@travisfw @kwramm According to Wikipedia, the ”Scrum Guide” has only existed since 2009. Is that true? If it’s true, what holy document were people using before that to say what was Scrum and what wasn’t?

@woe2you It’s not only ”we suck at gathering requirements”, it’s also ”it’s often not meaningful to gather requirements in a vacuum”. Those are actually among the good parts, having stakeholder representation in the team. ”Fancy name” is among the bad parts.

@travisfw @kwramm Velocity has been part of the Scrum story since at least then, and saying that it isn’t Scrum is like saying Trump isn’t president of the US because there’s no mention of him in the constitution.

@travisfw @kwramm The ”immutable” Scrum Guide has been updated(!) many times since I was doing anything called Scrum more than 15 years ago, and conveniently that version of the document seems hard to find, but I believe you. But even the current Scrum Guide says that ”Other sources provide patterns, processes, and insights that complement the Scrum framework”.

@grumble209 @clock @huntingdon Yep, that’s the thing. ”Legality” is totally out the window regarding any ICE behaviour, they just do as they please and everyone else suffers the consequences.

Legality is only relevant with enforcement behind it, and enforcement is based on human networks, it’s not some abstract thing. To quote Foucault: ”[…] the State can only operate on the basis of other, already existing power structures”.

@huntingdon @VisualStuart ICE has any power they take for themselves until someone actually stops them. And juridical methods don’t count at ”stopping” unless there is actual enforcement.

Then there are things like ”velocity” that is some real bullshit.

And once you have ”leaders” imposing Scrum, it’s not self-organised anymore. So in practice it probably only works when the team is self-organised to begin with, which makes the whole framework have very limited value.
