Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly vetoed the bill but the Republican-controlled Kansas Legislature narrowly voted to override and put it into law.

1:13PM · Feb26 2026"I've literally no patience for anyone saying trans KNs 'just' have to go to DMV & get a new license. There was no time given and no process in place. Letters were sent to some whose licenses were invalidated, but not all. There was no grace period & many weren't notified. More or less a mathematical inevitability people will be charged for suspended licenses who had no idea a legally issued license was invalidated overnight for being trans."
