Because art requires criticism. Every time someone treats games seriously and pushes against fanboy narratives, the response is a GamerGate-style dogpile that drives critics away from the medium entirely.
You want older audiences to respect games as art? Drop the ageism.
You want your mom to respect your hobby? Drop the misogyny.
You want global coverage? Stop erasing non-American experiences.
Art grows where people feel safe enough to speak. Right now, too many don’t. -

I actually believed some of gamergate's critiques back in the day, but they destroyed their crediblity with their disgusting behavior. -
