We need better public transit simply because I know for a cold hard fact that many of the people around me simply cannot afford to own the cars they own, and I really doubt they’re alone.

Cars are like pets: if you can’t afford to the medical/mechanical repair costs, you shouldn’t have one. But people have choice.
