Finally, updated my Internet connection to 1.5Gbps, and a WiFi 6E router.
Which means I can finally do some game streaming without terrible lag.
And using Steam Link, it’s okay—but still not optimum. Performance really depends on distance. Once you move 50ft away, things degrade big time.
But the biggest problem—and one not easily solvable unless the laws of physics change—is input lag. In my tests, this varies big time. It’s simply not consistent. Sometimes a button press gets recognized within 20ms, and sometimes 40ms.
Which is why I think the notion of we’ll all be living in a world where we remote stream games is ridiculous. If your only choice is to stream, you’re going to be pulling your hair out.
However, that’s not to say that streaming doesn’t have its place. If you have a gaming machine, but many devices that aren’t optimized for gaming (Mac, smartphone, tablet) streaming saves battery power and storage.
But again, there’s always a cost. And that cost is performance and input lag.

@KitsuneVixi No, I’m talking about WiFi. If I wanted to stream via Ethernet, I’d just connect machines together instead of going through a router.
