      i wish we didn't have pennies

      does anyone know how that's going? i swear there was some bill in congress to start rounding all cash transactions

        @ielenia@ck.catwithaclari.net it’s been introduced and referred to the House Committee on Financial Services. This means it’s still very early in its life.

        After looking through the bill text (pretty short) I find the 1 year enactment timeline to be pretty aggressive.

        The act is quick to note that Pennys would remain legal currency, and that rounding only pertains to cash transactions. While that makes sense it Also means that pennies are likely to remain in circulation for
        years after the act goes live.

        There is no provision for reclaiming the coinage which I find interesting. I imagine that details like that will come out of committee though.
