Hi, the Mastodons. I don't know how this works yet or how active I'll be here, but I thought I'd introduce myself.
I'm a UK-based female AuDHD adult, choosing to remain mostly anonymous. I'm really just curious about how the Fediverse works - I can be ambivalent about social media but I thought this sounded refreshing in contrast to the big, powerful platforms which feel scarier to me by the minute. I've also been getting to grips with Linux recently, and am thinking about other ways within my limited means and courage to try to be involved with more of the small things that are about moving away from exploitation and towards caring for each other.

I jumped into say that if you post #Linux, you'll get loads of people who want to talk about how to use it. I make sure not to only use it as tech support, but it can be light tech support.

@MelodicDinosaur Also, I hope you know you can follow hashtags! If you search for #Linux, you'll get an option to follow it, and that's a great way to meet people with common interests. There are loads of neurodiverse people on here including autistic, ADHD (hi!), and AuDHD like you.

Welcome to Mastodon.Right off the bat some things to understand... No one cares about your follow:follower ratio here, no one cares about your post count, etc. There is no algorithm to feed you content here, instead you make your timeline by following people, hashtags and groups that interest you.
Next, I suggest following @FediTips to get more pointers / guidance on using the #fediverse, of which Mastodon is only a part.

I hope you'll forgive my asking such a purrsonal question - you're a very handsome cat, but are you a familiar or representative of the wizard or are you the wizard himself?
I'd rather not have to choose a tribe but it'd better not be sourdough because I tried one once and forgot about it and then it just got smelly and I threw it away so I'm afraid the little yeasts that live in the air will gang up on me if I ever try it again.
As for lichen vs. cats, I'll have to think carefully about this. I do like my new lichen friends but I don't want to end up embroiled in gang warfare. I'll have to seek specialist advice.

@OneInterestingFact Hello! LOL, I sort of really didn't know what to put, but it's been a nice surprise how friendly everyone has been!
I don't have any experience of other social media so no expectations but yes, generally friendly is exactly how I've found it too.
Although I came for art and relaxation I've found myself drifting into politics more than I intended, or maybe politics is intruding, but I am advised that running two accounts can be a way to get back if you head too far off course...
