Why do Swedes like to have such dim lighting? Already there is no sunlight. I got the bulb in my room replaced because I could barely see anything, and the replacement is not any brighter.

Why do Swedes like to have such dim lighting? Already there is no sunlight. I got the bulb in my room replaced because I could barely see anything, and the replacement is not any brighter.
As a counterpoint, the one time I was close to the equator (in Thailand), I felt that the light was extremely glaring all the time - if it wasn't the sunlight burning from above, it was reflected from nearby buildings.
In other words, I suspect the Swedes prefer dimmer lights because they live in twilight conditions for most of the year.
