I reject the idea that enjoying a story requires me to make a moral judgement about everything it contains.

Liking a story where someone becomes royalty is not the same thing as endorsing monarchy, and frankly thinking that it *does* is kind of weird.

@CactuarJoe hello i have a modern-day approved story
once upon a time, there was a perfect character. they never did anything wrong and never experienced any growth or journeying because that would imply they were imperfect and needed to change. also if they ended up with money or power or something that would be immoral so they sat and stared at the wall instead. the end

@seekingfreedom It's perfect! The only morally unimpeachable story, now I know we're finally pure and can do no wrong

@CactuarJoe Any three-year-old who wants to be a princess when she grows up is a dyed-in-the-wool monarchist and a class traitor, and should be given her first and last cigarette before she's lined up against the wall and shot!!!!111!!1

@CactuarJoe It's the same as the "If kids see pixelated gore on a computer screen, they'll shoot up their schools!" people but coming the other direction.
I know a lot of people are bad at critical thinking, but most of them aren't THAT bad at it and society depends on at least pretending that the average person can distinguish between "once upon a time" and "the next time you walk out your front door".
