One thing that amuses me is when people on reddit discuss Obsidian. There's always a hint of aggression and fervour to what they say.
I get that this is an engineering thing... people working on huge information systems need structures and, for work, there's Getting Things Done. Obsidian feels like GTD for D&D campaigns.
The fervour and aggression is fear that you'll take away or dismiss their second brains, leaving them squealing like Flash Gordon lads who have their goggles ripped off.

Then they start talking about German knowledge systems and my response is always 'I'm not looking up what that means... I'm either happy for you or sad for you depending on context'

@Taskerland I mean, it's like most men discussing soccer teams right? Every good word about my favorite team automatically means that your team is bad.
I have started to tread software like fashion, yes practicality is a point but personal taste and aesthetic play a role was well.

@Bartimaeus I think it's a bit more than that. My mind is chaos but knowledge-stacking systems are great for people who work in code or who, for ND reasons, need a structured second brain.
My mind is chaos. I freak out if I leave my door keys in the wrong place and need to go out. I understand but am also amused.

I regret not having known about them in Uni. Too often I think 'there was this great article'...but I can't find it. It's not searchable.Maybe that's what the fervour's all about - hoping nobody loses whatever they might put in those things.

@Taskerland It's a note app with convenient syncing.
It's about as worthy of _fervor_ as Notepad ... if Notepad had convenient syncing.
I use it because I realized I didn't use 99% of the features of word processors and that wading past those features was a distraction (especially as modern menus get bloated) ... I just write books in them, and that's just plain old text. So I downshifted to Obsidian.
And for the moment, for the current book, that's been very good.
