We need to talk about Breath of the Wild clones on PC. Here’s what I’ve tried:
Immortals Fenyx Rising – This is the AAA effort from Ubisoft. For an Ubisoft game, it’s actually really good. The open world works well. Unfortunately, it’s also an Ubisoft game which means there’s lots of cruft, including long loading times, micro-transactions, and Ubisoft Connect.
Oceanhorn 2 – My favourite of the bunch since it has the most wistful atmosphere, with plenty of puzzles, and great combat systems. At one time, it was an exclusive to Apple Arcade, but has since been released to Steam. The controls are a little wonky, but once you get used to it, it’s wonderful.
Eternal Edge+ – This is both the most basic but also resembles Zelda that most. If you truly want something that gets you adventuring immediately, this is it. That said, there’s not a whole lot of depth. But there’s definitely fun to be had.
Pine – The most aesthetically interesting since this one takes place amongst a tree folk tribe that lives in the forest. A great cataclysm forces your character away from your people. An incredibly rich world to explore, and meeting all the unique creatures was such a trip.
Cloudheim – Still in Early Access. However, I am absolutely impressed with the visuals. The trailer doesn’t do it justice. On my OLED TV, with an RTX 3090—at epic settings—I am amazed at how glorious this looks. The combat system is wonderful, and I love exploring the world.
If you’re looking for the most well-rounded game that looks good, has minimal cruft, and is largely bug free—then Oceanhorn 2 is the way to go. That said, once Cloudheim comes out of Early Access, it’s going to be a real winner. But overall, most of these games are fantastic.

@atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org The Ubislop account requirement ruibed Fenix Rising for me. I was really looking forward to that game but I noped out and took the disc to EB Games for $3 as I did not want to sign up to play a single player game.
