The Malay word "Comot" doesn't seem to have an English equivalent. It means "Messy in an endearing way" and is usually reserved for babies and cats.

@ubi@ecoevo.social I think "untidy" is pretty close!

@unfresh @ubi Nah. When I hear "untidy," I think of a room, not a baby.

@KeithAmmann@dice.camp @ubi@ecoevo.social The thing is that comot can also refer to things like...smudged handwriting, smudged chocolate on faces. Is it messy? Yes. But it can also mean untidy/dirty (but in an endearing sense).

It's a bit of a difficult to define it since it has a fairly transient meaning, I guess.

@unfresh @ubi "Sloppy" might come closer, although it also has a pretty negative connotation (as @rothko said about "untidy").

"Messy" definitely comes closest; it just isn't specific enough.
