Going back to my theory that Temple of Elemental Evil is suppose to be Lolth and the Elder Elemental God... Does it sound crazy? Well, hah! Gary Gygax confirmed it himself in an enworld thread. ScottG asked him about the Lolth Platinum Egg and Gary repliedAs you note, the shapes were repeated in the ToEE as I did intend to tie the latter into the series. Lolth was to be connected to the temple, she the key to activation of that which would remove the imprisoning bonds from the Elder Elemental God. Of course that would have been by unintended consequences of her actions when the PCs discovered her. Hoiw it was all to operate was something I never did get fleshed out. This was to happen in the lower levels of the temple, the development of which I never got around to because of my work out on the West Coast. @SharpCheddarGoblin I’m one day planning to run a “Witches of Dolmenwood” campaign where the players are all witches trying bring back the old gods, depose all the monarchs, and bring self sovereignty to the people of Dolmenwood (through community building and mutual aid). I like the setting, but like you I can only read the church, the nobility, and all the other powerful people as obviously evil no matter the framing of the setting as written.

@randomwizardYeah, that 4e turned out that way does seem like it has a lot to do with why it didn't manage to overcome its initial hurdles enough to last. Same power structure with the exact same proportions for all classes regardless of power source (with that only starting to change in the *least* starting with PHB3), every class within a given role having very similar powers.

@croyle @randomwizardWhich is why it's not a sell. They aren't even making new printings with the new label; this is about how things are sorted in D&D Beyond. Apparently other methods didn't code so well.
