        @typographische @tphinney @kai @typeoff @underware This is great as an opener.

        A history that looks more like a family tree might be also helpful, to warn, that the newest hip Helvetica replacement might be the next target of devourment.

          An updated version of a graph we posted a decade ago on Twitter, still relevant: Helvetica releases since 1957. Actually, we meanwhile need similar graphs for other 20th century classic typefaces…

                @alvaroefe @typeoff @underware @tphinney @lttrspc @typographische @kai I wonder what the top typefaces are besides Helvetica which get an enormous amount of releases. Garamond and the not-really-Garamonds? Times (New) Roman? Bodoni?

                  @amalie @alvaroefe @typeoff @underware @lttrspc @typographische @kai In this context, does releases mean something with a new name and branding? I assume so... not just any dot release silent update.

                    yeah, it is a bit tricky to define. I would count “Neue haas grotesk” as an Helvetica, but would Arial or “Swiss” count as clones? What is the line or would define as a “revival”, “clone”, “official”, etc.
