    Country fried venison cube steak.

Yesterday the deer processor near me did its “people didn’t claim their deer. No calls. No questions. No holds. Cash only. First come first serve. Starting NOW!”

We looted every pocket and hidden cash and came up with $30. This bought a three pound shoulder roast and four pounds of cube steak. I didn’t weigh the results though. And I know this place is really into *pack the bag and freeze" so I definitely got more than that.

    Cost per person, $3

It’s beige. It’s definitely unhealthy. It totally makes cooking oil impossible to reuse. It calls to me.

Taking suggestions for the roast. My default is slow cooked in tomato sauce and red wine for sandwiches you can’t buy.

Just throw some flat-leaf parsley on there. Maybe a lemon wedge.

        Country fried… Venison?! 😯

Shit, I wonder if there’s anywhere I can just buy venison, here. 🤔 I only ever had it from actually hunting and I don’t hunt any more.

If there’s one thing I learned growing up in south Texas is that you can country fry ANYTHING!

Cut it all into tablespoon-sized pieces and plate it nicely and you could charge $50 a plate for it with the right tablecloths

That looks so good! 😋 Question, cube steak is pre-tenderized steak from various locations on animal? Is this only from local butcher? I don’t buy a lot of meat, but don’t remember seeing this at the grocery store (Maryland). Also, would it work to convection/air/pan fry the steak? Deep fat frying is sooooo messy. Like your idea for the roast, don’t do enough to have a good suggestion.

In general you can find cube steak beef at just about every English speaking grocery I’ve been to. But venison is going to require some work to find because in some places you can’t even legally sell it. I’d see if you have a deer processor in your area. Call them and see if they do it or know a place that does.

You can’t do this in an air fryer. That works for things that have already been breaded and frozen but for fresh dredging you are going to need sacrificial oil that’s going to get everywhere.

Freezer green beans, or carrots, are a good side for this. Just pan roast them with olive oil and a little salt and pepper. Fruit for dessert. That looks like a good batter.
