Well, there are plenty of German folk tales to choose from, but one of the highlights is the Count of Gleichen.
He got captured on a Crusade and ended up becoming a slave. However, a Saracen princess fell in love with him, and agreed to help him escape if he promised to marry her.
He does so, but he was already married - with kids, even! So what did he do after he got free?
He went to Rome on his way back to Germany, and got a special dispensation from the Pope for bigamy...
