NBCNews headline:
“When home births go wrong, will hospitals take walk ins?”Yes you clickbait fucks. EMTALA. That’s the whole deal. Any hospital with an Emergency shingle out, who accepts federal dollars, takes anyone anytime. That is essentially all actual hospitals with emergency departments. We don’t sit there and go “oh, they fucked up at home, no service for them!”. In fact, most of us are going to take you VERY seriously if you are coming in in labor because we hate ER deliveries.

@mcnado@mstdn.social Sadly I do not have this kind of trust in the US medical system anymore.
There have been instances of people whose emergency treatment has been refused - concretely there have been multiple reported instances of emergency treatment after a baby has died in the womb being refused due to state laws being ambiguous about it.
There also have been cases where undocumented immigrants have been intentionally delayed care for a "not yet life threatening" emergency until it became seriously life threatening.
Yes, EMTALA is in the books, and yet it's just a matter of time until someone dies due to political care refusal. Or maybe it's already happened and I just don't know yet... -
