this is not about being bound (or not) by german law, they obviously are in regard to german users, this is about having to pay taxes like a for-profit company without transparent rationale.

@fenixmaster @ikuturso @EUCommission yeah tax office, not ministry of finance, you're right. Pretty much, yeah. Though as said, they are basically bound to follow the laws, which have often been historically skewed towards large corporations in germany

the w platform is not a european govt initiative
what happened is the private entities and personalities behind it positioned it that way and people bought into their lies

@EUCommission Please take heart that the criticism here is meant well for the benefit of all of us and you’re doing a relatively fine job compared to all the other entities worldwide.
Please take action to stop Chat Control and protect our digital rights and that not of corporations. Take steps to leave corporate social media platforms in a concerted way. This to have a bigger impact spreading awareness to EU citizens to do the same and sending a strong signal that we do not accept platforms that spread disinformation, CSAM, discrimination, fascism, all that with or without coordination from foreign adversaries. -

@fenixmaster @DJGummikuh @EUCommission Not really. The US thing was independent of the loss of non-profit status.
Looking into it, the gGmbH continues to function but the current plan going forward is to form a Belgian AISBL, more about it here: https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2025/11/the-future-is-ours-to-build-together/

I am very happy the EU has finally broken free from the US-epstein tech, hopefully #Canada will soon also break that deviant addiction, it is about national security after all.
