@mochabeau @Ashedryden well, maybe #Zulip? Or #DeltaChat, if you really want end-to-end encryption of group chats (but no control of roles)? #XMPP also has good group delegation, but the #OMEMO encryption can have less reliable delivery in groups, with various members disappearing for spells of time.

Two things:
1. We are creating a two-tiered internet that will see people willing to give up their IDs having one experience while those who can’t, won’t, or don’t have them missing out on those experiences or being outright excluded from whole areas of the web2. Why you would be willing to give up your ID to web services that have such poor security in a time when identity is being weaponized by state actors is beyond me
They already have your ID like 10x over from all the other things you've been forced to give it for and all the public data breaches, so it barely matters anyway for most people.

We already have a two tiered internet with Facebook and Instagram etc.
I don't have an account on those things, never will, and I have only used Discord once and will be deleting my account now.

@Ashedryden Finally a legitimate use for AI image generators

@annika @Ashedryden Now, not only do they know you're a dog, they know what breed you are, what kind of kibble you eat, and how often you go out for walkies.
@maccruiskeen @annika @Ashedryden Is the age verification in dog years?

@geospacedman @maccruiskeen @Ashedryden Yes, hope you're at least 126 dog years old

@d1 @Ashedryden the main issue is it must have native apps for mobile, and i need to be able to have roles control channel access, an extensible api for rebuilding the different bots that i use in my discord server, and screensharing. i have tried all those options, and i just haven't found one that meets all the things i need. i would really like to use a FOSS solution, but i feel like ive tried everything.

@debacle @d1 @Ashedryden @movim movim is pretty good from what ive tried, i can say that

@AlSweigart I went to a protest without a phone and realized I couldn’t easily find out when buses come or pay for the fare because everything is so cash averse now
I’ve been in shops where the staff couldn’t count the cash, so we ended up doing a digital transaction.

Can't rely on pigeons either...

They used to be. Until the U.S. Government replaced them with drone replicas designed to spy on the American public. Founded in 1976.

@toddz @Ashedryden I know a good bird lawyer.

@trashwizard @Ashedryden https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c8jmzd972leo ← and for some people who did give up their face, it got nicely leaked

@derickr @trashwizard @Ashedryden Y’all remember the old days, before graphical browsers? We used to run bbs from a 386 with a 2400 baud modem.
BBS is a relatively low cost, simple to install, Pi friendly way to create networks around late stage capitalism. Is a panacea for our ills, no...but you can roll your own discord type system.
I mean, if governments wanted to keep us “safe” from predators, they could start by arresting all of them in government. Else, it’s just a con.

@Ashedryden Since Discord are so fond of shoving AI shit in people's faces, I'm sure they won't mind if I shove an AI generated face at their "age scanning" tool..
