i think i spent the last 7 years thinking i was kind of depressed as an immigrant, but i think i'm just depressed to live in a part of the country that needs cars

I did not know what "car dependency" meant until I visited the USA. That was a _massive_ culture shock.

@juergen_hubert yes, i have so far avoided: needing a car to get anywhere (or needing to get into a car at all), but i am aware that only 0.0001% of the people here get to live like that

Here in Germany, I lived in five different cities - but I never felt the need for a car. I could always get wherever I needed to go locally by bicycle, and use public transportation for longer distances.
