Related: because so few (white) people in the US know what the Black Panthers did or do, it's easy for scammers to create new organizations calling themselves Black Panthers, and telling people that the Black Panthers are "back" to fight ICE.

1. The real Black Panthers never left.
2. No. Just no.
If everything that you've ever known about the Black Panthers, you learned from the US news, or US history books, or various other sources controlled by white people that condone US racism? Then you can be forgiven for being taken in by that "Black Panthers are Back!
" scam.

The only mainstream movie I've seen that portrays the Black Panthers even remotely close to historical reality, is "Judas and the Black Messiah."
Strong recommend.
A lot of people today say terms like "Rainbow coalition" and "It's not race, it's class" but have no idea where these terms come from.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=t7nQr4IuLL0
This failure to understand what the Black Panthers meant by class solidarity over racism, is why Bernie Sanders will never be president, but AOC might.
"Guns in Vermont are not the same as guns in Chicago!
""Elon was right about...
""We have to fund the police...
"The "Guns in Chicago" comment is especially ironic, seeing as how Fred Hampton lead his rainbow coalition and class solidarity work in Chicago.

By the way, the real Black Panthers, who never left, contacted those fake Black Panthers, who pretended to be "back."
The real Black Panthers told them not to use their name.
So the fake Black Panthers renamed themselves, and are now called the "Black Lions."

β
οΈHonestly, I wish them well.

Judas was a breathtaking movie.
Also highly recommend Alondra Nelson's book 'Body and Soul,' which is about the medical clinics, and school meals, daycares, and entire collective support services the panthers set up and ran for their overlooked and underserved communities. A whole alternative social services system, coordinated and organized, making sure families, women, and kids had what they needed to thrive.
Which apparently smacked of socialism to the authorities, although if you come from a functional country with an actual social safety net, it just looks clever and obvious and also wtf why isn't the government taking care of all of its citizens?
Nelson's research was the first I learned about the Black Panthers when I came to the US and if that is where you start from, all of the racist fearmongering you ever encounter later in popular culture is very obviously racist fearmongering.

@mekkaokereke
I genuinely knew very little about the Black Panthers (until I started reading your thread), but even before I knew anything I was certain I'd rather be in the company of Black Panthers than any member of the Klan. And now I'd feel safer with the real Black Panthers than with MAGAts or ICE.
