No! Don't treat innocent immigrants like innocent Black women! 🤡

The GOP wants to put immigrant women in a facility where they will get unnecessary gynecological exams without their consent! Evil!

The Dems only want to put innocent Black US citizens in there! Good!

    🙂🙃

ICE Will Hold Immigrants in Jail Accused of “Excessive, Invasive” Gynecological Procedures

The Georgia facility gained notoriety for allegations that women received “unnecessary” gynecological treatment, at times lacking informed consent.

The thing that Black US citizens, brown US citizens, Black and brown immigrants, white US citizens that have been to jail, police, ICE, and even Tom Homan, can all agree on, is that the conditions in city and county jails are much worse than the conditions in ICE facilities.

    And it's not close.

And again, most people in US jail, are innocent.

They have been falsely accused with flimsy cases with no evidence, and are in jail waiting for their day in court to prove that innocence. Every Black person falsely arrested and charged has to face this.

They can be there for over a year.

    Or 7 yrs.

Maurice Jimmerson was held in a Georgia county jail, for 7+ years without trial. Then released.

No one knows whether he was guilty or innocent. He took a plea deal, because he was in jail for 10 years anyway. 🤷🏿‍♂️

Everyone who was charged with him and got a trial earlier, was acquitted.

If you were falsely accused of murder, and knew that you could prove your innocence in court, but were held in a violent and dangerous county jail in Georgia indefinitely...

You would maintain your innocence, but after 7 to 10 years, you would take a plea deal anyway, just to go home and be free.

I understand the position held by the majority of Black folk in the US: that ICE detention is wrong, and pre-trial detention is wrong. We should unwind ICE that targets immigrants, and the police state that targets Black people👍🏿

I disagree with the GOP position, but I understand it: get them all!

What I don't understand is the centrist Dem position:
It's horror when ICE does it to brown people but necessary when cops do it to Black people. We can't defund the cops, but we must defund ICE. We need 90%+ of Black men to vote to end this brutality for others, but to worsen it for themselves.
      🙂🙃

And when I say "innocent Black people " I don't just mean "totally did it, but just haven't been proven guilty yet."

And I don't just mean "Totally did it, but there won't be enough evidence to convict at trial, so they'll probably get away with it."

      I mean innocent like this.

      RIP Kyren Lacy.

@mekkaokereke are there centrist Dems arguing affirmatively that these conditions are necessary in city/county jails? I usually hear about it more as centrist Dems being unwilling to defund or criticize police, but I don't think that's the same as affirmatively advocating for horrific conditions (as the GOP is doing for ICE facilities)

Then yes, the horror is part of your purpose.

One interesting subgenre on YouTube is American journalists visiting European jails and freaking out:

"What, prisoners are allowed to keep much of their dignity around here?"

American prisons are a horror show of epic proportions. And given the absurd number of people in American jails, I can only assume that Americans _want_ that.
