I’ve been watching the opening weekend of the WPBL, and… I have to be honest, it’s pretty rough. The product on the field is fine. It’s obvious that the players aren’t covering ground the way millionaire MLB players can, but I would never expect them to, either. The thing is, though, that the broadcast is super bush league. The PBP announcer doesn’t know the player names, doesn’t appear to have a scoresheet in front of her, and sounds like she’s chewing on her microphone; the score bug is never up to date; they routinely ignore the game on the field to interview people in the stands about how excited they are to witness this “momentous” event and to see these “iconic athletes”, but also just silently show the field or even dead air between innings; the field isn’t properly mic’d, so you can’t really hear the ball hutting the bat, or the crowd cheering; they spend more time hyping the bobble-head giveaways for the current game that no one viewing at home can get, and that won’t be given out next game than they do telling us anything about the actual women playing the game. And worst of all, the broadcasters come across like marks for the league, rather than people covering the actual games, and that’s a huge problem. it makes the games borderline unwatchable. They’re promoting the idea of the league, and not the product on the field, and it reeks of narcissistic ownership. It’s a problem.

I came for the video and stayed for the amazing rallying cry during the latter part.Keep up the amazing research and thank you for speaking out, though it's unfortunate that you felt like you had to.

Was thinking more like satellite imagery as background. I feel like there’s no way such faint an object would be visible through the atmosphere. But maybe I’ve just never been far enough away from civilisation.

It’s been a loooong time since I’ve played FInal Fantasy 7. Like, probably 25 years now. Maybe 20. But definitely before I permanently moved away from home. It’s one of my favourite games of all time, but also, one of the hardest for me to revisit. I’m at the City of the Ancients now, and I’m finding myself woefully unprepared to handle it.
