I really, really love Critical Role, but does anyone feel like this new season is a tad too melodramatic?

Everyone is constantly talking in hushed-tones and I feel like we’re seeing much less of the humor we once did.
This may just be a result of the large number of people trying to get their RP In and there being less room for humor.
I LOVE Critical Role and BLM as a GM, but it’s just something that feels a bit off this season.

@ChoomSDN I don't know about melodramatic, but there's certainly less action.

Yeah that’s true too

@ChoomSDN it does have talking dogs though…

Less action? We’ve had a character introduced with a death saving throw, a character has been murdered, a chase through a haunted wood, and a fight with a literal zombie horde. Brennan does seems to be encouraging the players to solve problems creatively and punishing the “punch our way out of it” problem solving style, but describing that as less action hardly seems appropriate. These are still low level characters; I’m sure they’ll get more initiative rolls as they level up. Right now, they’re likely to get slaughtered by said action. Besides, the long overture included all the main characters, and we’ve only had a couple episodes with the soldiers table who are likely to see the most action.

@Wolf314159 Good points, but I was pointing to the two combats (I know there was a third one, but that was designed to make the players flee). Still entertained though and I adore the soldier table.

@Wolf314159 And now I'm watching episode 8 and it's packed with action!
