We had a big birthday bash (with multiple family members attending) planned for end of November in Las Vegas.

Cancelled it immediately after their election results came in - stupidity doesn’t deserve our money.

Routinely lookup company ownership and review product origin/manufacturing details when shopping.

(Also continuing boycott of Loblaws-owned stores, products, etc. - because screw Galin…)

I’m not fully boycotting them, but they are my grocer of last resort. My #1 is a local ethnic grocer with 3 locations. #2 are local bakeries and independants. #3 are sobeys/metro owned and last is Weston.

    I’m blessed with options.

I have no intention of traveling to the states and I avoid buying American products. But I feel like a bit of a hypocrite because I still use American streaming services and watch American films in the theatre

As an expat, the availability of physical American products in the UK is limited, so the digital services have been on my “screw the Yankees” list:

        Service Alternative
Amazon Just buying shit from other sites
AWS, Azure Self-hosting, and kicking up a fuss at work to push us out of the cloud
Microsoft Windows Linux baby! (To be fair, I was already on that train)
Google DuckDuckGo, though it’s still american, I can’t find an actually useful non-US search engine
Android I might make the jump to Graphene or e/OS for my Fairphone
        Steam GOG

I’m also avoiding US brands at the grocery store, but that’s probably easier here than back home.

For search engines, try swisscows.com. Results filter NSFW, so good to use at work. Also, SearxNG, if you want a federated engine.

How do you find the correct sites to buy whatever specific shit from?

Do you do any streaming? High seas for that, I guess?

Vessi shoes. They’re the most comfortable shoes in the world. I haven’t bought another brand in years.

Oh right, I forgot to include that one. Yes, I was paying for Paramount Plus before all this as I wanted to support Star Trek. I cancelled the moment #ElbowsUp started and told them as much when I did.

The high seas are an excellent resource.

As for buying other stuff, sometimes it’s as easy as searching for it on DuckDuckGo and buying right from the site. Other times I got to local companies like John Lewis’s site.

CBC Gem, Crave (owned by Bell), Britbox for shows - Qobuz for music (Fully French owned unlike Deezer which represents itself as French but is 45% owned by an American investment firm that donated to Trump’s campaign), and yes the high seas for what you can’t get at these places.

This. Canada first but let’s also support the EU and Mexico and Brazil and all the other places Trump is targeting. Turns out there’s a whole world of products - we just need to alter our trade alliances and tastes.

I just want to point out that people have been going out of their way to support the biggest Canadian Trumpers while not “buying American”.

And lot of these companies ain’t very shy about their support on social media.

I personally have been making sure to use Shopify and Shop Pay as much as possible to avoid american companies. As much as i know the CEO is a MAGAt himself, the American alternatives are all just as bad but at least it’s an investment in Canadian jobs and the Canadian e-commerce sector.

                            • No travel to the US
                            • Absolutely as few American products purchased as possible - to the point of not buying carrots when I can’t get local ones
                            • Closing and deleting my social media accounts and cloud services
                            • Avoiding American-owned companies whenever possible

In addition, I’ve been avoiding the worst Canadian companies when possible (specifically, the ones who really don’t give a fuck about Canada) - Shopify, Loblaws, and the rest.

-Killed all American based social media (personal and small business)

-gave up travel after 911. Volunteered as a medic at WTC. Got treated like shit when we questioned the whole WMD warmongering. Not been back since.

-cancelled Amazon immediately. Left Google and Microsoft behind. Working on degooglinv my phone as well. I’m new to all this type of techy stuff and I’m old so it’s taking a bit longer than others.

-taught as many as I can the ways of torrenting and free streaming. I’ve been purchasing from the little guy and stealing from the big guy for decades as a teen of the 90’s.

-completely stopped purchasing all food and any other goods we could from America and produced solely by American companies including those with presence in Canada (sorry fellow Canadians employed by these asshats but it’s got to happen)

-switched pet food brands to a Canadian company. Working on animal feed for our homestead. No more veggie seeds from there either.

-no fast food treats, chain restaurants, hotels, online booking companies, etc from murican companies.

-if we can’t find it from somewhere other than 'murica we don’t need it.

-no shipping from my small business to US customers anymore. I’m not interested in their business until they depose their dictator.

-we are also teaching our young kids to avoid products and services from 'murica. We openly speak to them about what is happening there and how it is affecting us socially, politically and morally in Canada. We will do our best to make this boycott generational.

-our kids have given up lots of things on their own because of our actions as parents. No dictators here. They choose for themselves and I am proud to say even at 10 and 12 they have made exceptional choices.

I personally have been making sure to use Shopify and Shop Pay as much as possible to avoid american companies. As much as i know the CEO is a MAGAt himself, the American alternatives are all just as bad but at least it’s an investment in Canadian jobs and the Canadian e-commerce sector.
