      And replace it with what?

      Certainly not the American spellings.

I really don’t think spelling is where we should be spending our energy. I’m all for sticking with the Elbows Up idea, but this seems like too small of a hill to die on.

I generally like British English better than American English, but they have some goofy stuff too like “gaol” and “tyre” no thanks. I like our Canadian English middle ground. Then we can bring out the bunnyhugs, eh?

No one uses the word gaol in the UK.

We say prison instead. Occasionally jail but that’s more common as a verb and not a noun.

This will make a lot of work for public servants with zero useful payoff.

                      Not worth doing.

British spelling is the correct spelling. We don’t need no stinking Americans bastardizing what they don’t understand. We told the Americans to change their spellings to what Canada and the UK use and they said “No. You!” /s

But we would get cool words like boot and bonnet, instead of trunk and hood. And walking around without pants on is on a whole different level.

In North America we often differentiate jail as state or provincia,l and usually under 24 months and prison is 2+ years of federal incarceration

An article from “chek news” complaining about spelling. This looks like a tricky question on a “can you spot the fake news” test.

What am I going to do with all those extra "U"s I have lying around? Give them to the neighbours? Paint them different colours and nail them to the walls?

CHEK is their broadcast call sign that happens to sound like a word and therefore provides handy branding.

A jail is for temporary holding, a prison is for sentenced confinement.
